Tale-Bearer
Hello there,
How are you? I know it’s been a minute and I have been honestly busy, working on the final stage of my book before I put it out there hopefully before this month runs out. When all is set, you will be the first to know.
Let’s talk about tale-bearing! I hope you are not guilty of this, lol. "Tale bearing" refers to the act of spreading gossip, rumors, or confidential information about others. It is often viewed negatively because it can cause harm, misunderstandings, and conflicts among people. Tale bearing involves sharing stories or details, usually in a derogatory manner, that were meant to be private or were not fully verified.
Growing up I attended a single-sex secondary school and so I know this is a common thing among females. I’m not so sure of the male gender but irrespective of the gender, tale-bearing is a bad attribute to have. Over the past few years, I have learned to discipline myself from tale-bearing and distance myself from tale-bearers. Most importantly, I try to give everyone grace and the benefit of the doubt no matter the stories or tales I have heard about a person before our first meeting or conversation. Also known as; “I don’t acquire other people’s enemies as mine” until you act in a manner that proves the information being said or passed around about you is true.
Regardless of this, I frown at people who stay or pose as ‘friends’ with people they aren’t comfortable with their character only to become the chief head and source of the gossip. Why be with someone when you can’t handle their weaknesses? Are you that lonely or in great need of affection or attention? This is a reminder to choose your friends wisely and be discerning. Know who are meant to be your friends, acquaintances, and colleagues respectively; allow people to prove themselves. Do not mix everyone under the umbrella of friendship; otherwise, you will set yourself up for destruction in the long run.
Lastly, avoid tale-baring; do not become one or engage one before the tables turn and you become the news for the next tale.
Proverbs 26v20- 22 Says:
“Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: So where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; So is a contentious man to kindle strife.
The words of a talebearer are as wounds, And they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.”
I hope you meditate on this and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you.
All my love,
Jummy
